Personal Statement:I have strong beliefs in the process of science and math education, partially because of my own difficulties in high school and college. I do not believe that there are people who "cannot do" Math. Every individual's brain learns and processes concepts differently, they simply need to see it in a way that facilitates easier understanding. The fact is, science and math are subjects of increasing dependency. Concepts build and compound on the preceding ones. Traditional methods of teaching involve lecturing with no interaction between or participation from the students. True understanding of such material cannot come from memorizing formulas. We must create the math and science for ourselves to see it work, a process involving the open sharing of ideas and use of thoughtful discussion.
